I’ll be glad when today is over. Not because anything bad happened (actually, I’m writing this before today even happens — the magic of internet queues), but because today is the shortest day of the year.
Don’t get my wrong, I’m an evening person. My ideal sleep schedule is 2-11am. But once the sun has been down for an hour or so my brain shifts into night mode and I never seem to get anything done. I can beat a new level in a video game or read a few chapters, but there’s nothing to show for that after.
And I hate driving at night, too, but that’s another post for another day. When I have the motivation to write it.
I’m considering starting a history series on this blog, I’ll admit as sort of a fallback for when the writing inspiration isn’t coming (say, if the sun sets before I clock out of work for the day). There’s something interesting to be said every day — yesterday was Jonah Hill’s birthday, today is the anniversary of the Mayflower landing at Plymouth Rock, and tomorrow marks 214 years since Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony was introduced to the world.
Of course, I’ll try to focus on writing and writerly topics; I’ve got to keep some coherence, after all.
