“We do bones, motherfucker.”

I originally thought that the Locked Tomb looked a little too goofy for me, between what I had heard about them, the reviews on the covers, etc. Then one of my best friends told me to read it. I bought the book, moved twice, lost it, and then finally read it. And damn, I’m so glad I did!
Did I understand what was going on? Like 85% of the time? I gave up on flipping to the guide at the front like a third of the way in. At that point, I was just having fun. I love weird little tests and trials as a plot point, the dialogue was fun, the narration was less #LOLrandom than I had worried it would be, and most importantly, I really liked the characters.
Based on what I’d heard about the book(s), I was expecting more overt romance, and I didn’t get that in Gideon the Ninth. I think that’s a case of overexcited fandom, though–the book itself doesn’t really advertise the romance aspect at all.
I loved that the main character was a Woman who is Big and Muscled and she’s not considered a freak, and she’s not like that because she was raised by five brothers.
I’ve picked up Harrow the Ninth but haven’t read it yet at the time this post is coming out. I’m sure I’ll have good things to say about it, although I will say that *that* part of the ending of Gideon has made me slow to pick up the next in the series. But I think this is a series I’m committed to finishing.
